Sometimes, You Just Need a Hug

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Last night, Maddie woke up crying and was literally turning in circles on her bed looking for her pacifier, which had fallen on the floor.  She wanted to sleep so badly, but also wanted her paci for comfort.  So, I went into her room, handed her her pacifier and asked her,"Are you still sleepy?" She replied, "Yeah," and reached her little arms out for me. I thought she was going to sit in bed while we hugged, but Maddie used all of her energy and lifted herself into my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck and resting her head on my shoulder.  We hugged like this for a few minutes while I rubbed her back and gently rocked back and forth before laying her down in bed and telling her it was time to go back to sleep.  She complied and drifted off within a few minutes of me leaving the room, content and comforted.

Some might say it was the pacifier that did it, but I think that sometimes you just need a hug.  I know I sure did.
